Flint Police Officer Byron Norris passed away unexpectedly on September 4. In honor of his life and legacy of service, Mayor Sheldon Neeley ordered flags at Flint City Hall to be lowered to half-staff starting September 6. Officer Norris had served in the United States Army before joining the City of Flint Police Department in September 2022. He was recognized for his dedication and outstanding commitment to his duties, receiving the Officer of the Month award in February 2024 and an award from the 100 Club for his exceptional service to the community. Flint Police Chief Terence Green expressed condolences and emphasized that Officer Norris's service and dedication will be remembered always. The Mayor and Police Chief requested thoughts and prayers for Officer Norris's family during this difficult time.
