Fire Prevention Week Engages Flint Elementary Students

Staff Report / Flintlocal.org

Flint, MI - First graders from Flint recently visited Fire Station #1 as part of Fire Prevention Week. The students were welcomed by Mayor Sheldon Neeley and met Sparky the Fire Dog, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association. The event included a free lunch provided by Domino's.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, the Flint Fire Department is hosting visits from local elementary students. These students are learning about fire safety, emphasizing the importance of having a home fire plan. Activities include demonstrations of firefighting equipment and experiences with a smokehouse simulator.

October is recognized as Fire Prevention Month in the United States, focusing on raising awareness about fire safety. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you.”

In addition, the Flint Fire Department will hold open houses on Friday, October 11 from 4 PM to 6 PM at all five Flint fire stations. Residents who provide proof of address may receive a free smoke detector while supplies last.
